STEVE WHITELEY

Steve Whiteley is a retired YSSD teacher and thirty-year resident, with a forty-year career in education. During his thirty years at YSHS, Steve taught Earth Science, Environmental Science, Oceanography, and Astronomy. Countless YSSD students of all ages enjoyed Steve’s planetarium presentations. Steve also advised the yearbook, the newspaper, the student council, and Mini-THON. In eleven Mini-THONs, Steve guided students as they raised over $725,000 for Four Diamonds and pediatric cancer research.

 

Steve graduated from Central York High School. He earned an A.B. in Earth Science from Dartmouth College and an M.S. in Geology from the University of New Mexico. Steve worked as an exploration geologist throughout the United States before becoming an educator.

 

Steve and his wife Sharon have two children, both graduates of YSHS. Steve is a member of the Rotary Club of York and serves on the board of the York Suburban Education Foundation. He volunteers at the YSEF Impact Foundation’s food distributions and advises the Impact Foundation students on fundraising. In his free time, Steve enjoys exercising at the JCC, playing golf, and working on home improvement projects.
